Ready to Ride?

Ready to Ride?

Justine is opening the gate, it's a bit of a soft day, but we are all ready to ride in beautiful Loughrea in the West of Ireland. So, put your foot in the stirrup, swing your leg up high, because West of the Pathos, we are all going to ride!

Our Horses are Ready to Jump!

Our Horses are Ready to Jump!

Just over the short wall and we swing down the hill to the right, and Justine promises, we will find a lovely herd of Irish horses.

Gorgeous Horses, Yes?

Gorgeous Horses, Yes?

These beauties are as gentle as they are gorgeous. For the ride of your life, try an Irish horse.

The Bay and the Grey on A Soft Rainy Day

The Bay and the Grey on A Soft Rainy Day

These lovelies are at Willie Leahy's barn in Loughrea. Willie is the ultimate horseman. He has been leading equine treks for a long, long time. His horses, their care and tack and the guides are among the best in the business.

The Red with the Roman Nose and Blaze

The Red with the Roman Nose and Blaze

While galloping through the field, this handsome sorrel came abreast of us and kept our pace.
It was sheer heaven to have this horse running at liberty and running with us. Big Boy, my 17.3 Irish mixed horse slowed a bit for the sorrel and we did a wide turn around the flock of sheep; tandem horses, dogs at our heels...it was one of high points of my life as a horsewoman.

Claire's Conemara

Claire's Conemara

This little bay adored Claire. Claire was Little Bo Peep and this little bay was her lamb.

Justine and the Little Bay

Justine and the Little Bay

The little bay reserved her affections for Claire, but Justine was allowed a bit of a nuzzle.

Dappled Greys

Dappled Greys

A herd of horses is in many ways, an emotional collective. We were beginning to trust one another on this soft day.

Justine Jumps the Wall

Justine Jumps the Wall

Typical Irish obstacle but too much for me. This is a completely fixed wall. One good nick and down you go.

We are going easy back to the barn. An adorable Gypsy horse nickers to us from his pasture...

A Gypsy King

A Gypsy King

A ditch below the fence line stops him from trundling barn-ward with us.
